UPDATED 15:45*

HOMES were without water for hours last night (Sunday) due to burst water mains.

A water main, in Station Road, Ryde was reported burst at 8.10pm and more than 20 homes were left without water until services could be rezoned shortly after 11pm, according to a Southern Water spokeswoman.

"The main was quickly isolated to enable repairs to be carried out. Water supplies have been rezoned to ensure the water supply to the area is maintained while repairs are undertaken.

"We hope to carry out the repairs as quickly possible and apologise for any inconvenience caused," said the spokeswoman.

*Southern Water later confirmed that another main, which burst earlier in the day, in the Swanmore Road area, had left 150 homes with interrupted water supplies.

Some customers were without water until after midnight.
