A BUSY Ryde road was closed this morning (Monday) after a water main fractured in the latest of a series of bursts in the area.

Thirty homes in the St John’s area lost water supplies as contractors dug up part of the section of St John’s Hill between the junctions of Oakfield High Street and Alexandra Road.

Southern Water started work in the area in September last year in a programme originally projected to last eight weeks but said it found the large number of other services in the road and leaking seals on some sections of newly laid pipe caused substantial delays.

A spokesman apologised for householders losing supplies for nearly three hours and said repairs to the road surface were being completed this week.

The burst was in a different section of main to that previously repaired.
