Homes without water over Christmas

WATER supplies to thousands of homes on the Isle of Wight have been disrupted over Christmas.

Around 4,000 properties in Ventnor, Wroxall, Shanklin, Whitwell and Lowtherville have been affected since Christmas Eve, when supplies were disrupted due to the storm conditions.

Some homes remain without water today (Boxing Day), and others are continuing to experience low pressure.

A Southern Water spokesman said engineers had worked through the night to restore supplies.

"We are slowly repressurising the water supply after around 4,000 properties were affected. We are working to restore supplies today," said the spokesman.

The company is distributing bottled water to those affected.

Customers can call Southern Water's emergency helpline on 0845 278 0845.

Have you been without water over Christmas? Call the County Press newsdesk, on 522210, from 8am tomorrow, or email Emily Pearce at the address below.

It's lonesome away from your kindred and all,
By the campfire at night where the wild dingos call,
But there's nothing so lonesome, so dull or so drear,
Than to stand in the bar of a pub with no beer.

Now the publican's anxious for the quota to come,
There's a faraway look on the face of the bum,
The maid's gone all cranky and the cook's acting queer,
What a terrible place is a pub with no beer.

The stockman rides up with his dry, dusty throat,
He breasts up to the bar, pulls a wad from his coat,
But the smile on his face quickly turns to a sneer,
When the barman says suddenly: "The pub's got no beer!"

I think old people wouldn't be able to carry the bottles , if you don't have a car to collect this water your a bit stuck , this needs some more thinking through .
