LITTLE Sophie Rolf has been given just two years to live after doctors discovered a tumour on her brain.
Four-year-old Sophie, of Hurst Point View, Totland, was diagnosed with the tumour last month and her parents, Aaron and Gemma, were told she was only expected to live for one or two years.
She will start a gruelling treatment programme at Southampton General Hospital on July 23, to halt the tumour’s growth but it is unlikely to prolong her life.
Aaron said: "We knew it was serious and we just wanted to know what her odds were.
"Sophie is a happy-go-lucky, little bundle of joy and to look at, you would never know. We can only hope she will be a miracle girl."
The tumour was revealed in a scan and Sophie now has a tube running through her body, draining fluid from her brain into her stomach.
The St Saviour’s Catholic Primary School pupil will travel to Southampton five days a week, for six weeks, before she starts a 12-month course of chemotherapy.
She was baptised, with her brother, Jack, eight, at St Saviour’s Church, Totland, which was followed by a party at West Wight Football Club, on Sunday.
Since Sophie’s diagnosis, staff at Sydenhams, Newport, where Aaron and Gemma work, have organised a 160-mile sponsored cycle from Paris to the Island, in September, and other fundraising ideas are being planned.
A website, www.kissypuppy.co.uk has been created and a blog is planned to update people on Sophie’s journey.
Aaron said: "Kissy puppy is something Sophie says to Jack so it’s a fitting name for the site.
"People have been so kind and the money raised will be put to good use."
