A HORSE which was being helped to its feet by firefighters at a farm in Newchurch on Sunday afternoon (April 13) has died.

Emergency crews and a vet were called to Borthwood Farm, Alverstone Road at around 4pm when the horse was unable to get up after giving birth to a foal.

Firefighters attempted to get a sling around the animal to try to get it into a barn where it could be treated. A vet was also in attendance. The animal was sedated during the rescue but died during the delicate operation.
