DESPITE battling for nearly one-and-a-half hours, Isle of Wight firefighters failed to save the life of a horse trapped in a ditch.
Two fire crews from Newport used specialised equipment to haul the animal from a ditch on land at Alverstone Road, East Cowes.
They received a report that the horse was trapped at 10.43 this morning and closed the incident at 12.07.
The horse owner was at the scene.
