VISITOR restrictions will continue at the Isle of Wight's St Mary’s Hospital over the weekend.

Isle of Wight NHS Trust thanked patients, visitors and staff for their actions, which have helped to nearly eradicate the recent outbreak of norovirus at the hospital.

However, as a precautionary measure, the trust said the current restrictions would continue until at least Monday, when they are due to be reviewed.

A spokesperson said: "As of Friday, we only have a couple of ongoing cases of the illness, although we are aware of further cases in the community."

The trust stressed day surgery, outpatient appointments and clinics remained unaffected and patients should attend as normal, but need to be aware of the restriction on accessing the main hospital only via the main entrance.
