Hospital turns to Olympics for inspiration

One of the London 2012 posters that will be on display as part of the exhibition at St Mary's Hospital.

INSPIRED by the London 2012 Games, St Mary's Hospital is exhibiting a series of posters celebrating the Olympics and Paralympics.

The twelve posters, designed by British contemporary artists, are on display outside the Full Circle restaurant.

They will go on permanent display at the hospital after the games.

Guy Eades, Healing Arts director at the Isle of Wight NHS Trust, said: "The Olympics are more than just sport. There is a whole range of activity associated with the Olympics and it is good some of this has been seen on the Island and at St Mary’s Hospital.

"The work commissioned by London 2012 will brighten NHS walls on the Island for years to come."

Mr Majors,

The decision whether to allow comments on a story is taken on the basis of legal proceedings being active, anonymity of youths in court cases or sensitivity grounds (as in the Wootton crash). We have no wish to stifle debate but have to take care not to prejudice ongoing court cases, or, in the case of the tragic accident, further upset already-grieving families.

Alan Marriott, County Press editor.

Yes, Why can we not comment on such stories as the sad deaths this week on our island roads, we may have an insight into these things and may help stop it happening again, and also the two kids who did 175k worth of damage and got a slap on the wrist, who pays to repair the damage?
The parents?
The kids when they get older and find work?
Or us, after our insurances yet again go up to cover this type of behaviour?

I very much appreciate the supportive words Mr Miller but in these unbearably PC times it is no longer about who wins street brawls, it is all about the taking part. Fighting in the street is now non-competitive, with each participant being encouraged to hit the other an equal amount of times so that the injuries sustained are equal - ie there is no loser. It's political correctness gone mad.

i don't care...come on IWCP won't you let us opine on the four arrested after fight story? Or what about the pitiful sentences handed to the two convicted arsonists in our midst? Can't we comment on those instead of these boring old posters?

I'm personally quite taken aback that some of these are going to be displayed permanently. One of them looks like a child was given a pot of blue paint and slapped it on a white sheet (I'm not exagerrating) and another has used the bottom of a cup and painted a different colour on it and then pressed it onto paper about 30 times. I've seen people stop, point and laugh at these. I wish they'd seek out some talented artists instead of all this 'contemporary' stuff.

Hmmm, Guy Eades, Healing Arts director says: "it will brighten NHS walls on the Island for years to come".
Wasn't there a similar idea with the Koan?
Gay Baldwin is writing in her new IOW Ghost Book about a strange phenomena that happens at St Marys Hospital on certain nights of the year when the Koan turns around.
Amazing story, must be Island folklore though, as nobody has ever seen it.
