POLICE have confirmed that a man has been found dead in a bungalow following a blaze which broke out at Furrlongs, Newport this morning.

Firefighters from Newport, East Cowes and Ryde were called to the blaze which broke out at around 5.24am.

Isle of Wight Police cordoned off a section of the road between St George’s Way and Pan Lane while they tackled the fire. 

The house is occupied by an elderly man, believed to be in his 80s, according to neighbours.
Ambulance crews were also called to the blaze.

One neighbour who did not wish to be named said that the man was known to be a 'hoarder' and was often seen attending boot fairs. 

Emergency crews are still at the scene damping down the fire and will be launching an investigation into the incident.
