HOMES and a museum were flooded in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday) due to a burst water pipe.

Firefighters and Southern Water engineers attended the scene, at St Mary's Road and High Street, Brading, shortly before 4am, where ten properties had been flooded.

One of the properties affected was the Lilliput Doll and Toy Museum, where the flood water was a foot deep.

The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service sent two fire engines and a pump to the scene to clear water from the properties.

The extent of the damage is not yet known.

They left the scene shortly after 5.30am.

About 20 properties have been left without water this morning and as engineers worked to remove a damaged section of main and replace it, a valve burst, which has led to more flooding in the road.

Engineers hope to restore water to the affected properties by lunchtime.

*All properties had their water restored by 1.45pm, according to Southern Water.
