TWO sheep from Harlow educational farm Pets' Corner outclassed strong opposition at the Essex Young Farmers' Show at Great Leighs Showground to take three prizes and the overall reserve champion rosette.

More than 80 sheep were entered in the prestigious show, with the two Pets' Corner animals competing in the Suffolk class.

The Harlow Town Park facility's Jack the Lad won the best Suffolk ram shearling class and Glorious Gloria won the Suffolk ewe shearling class. The ewe also went on to win the overall title of best Suffolk and was named reserve champion in the best of show class.

Delighted Pets' Corner supervisor Justin Hopwood said: 'I'm so pleased that we have made such a success of our visit to the Young Farmers Show. We were competing against sheep from flocks that are much larger than ours and that are supported by vastly greater resources.'

Glorious Gloria was born and bred at the Harlow Council facility and Jack the Lad was acquired last year.

Mr Hopwood said the ewe's win was particularly pleasing.

'It is quite rare for a female to be placed above males in competitions like this.'

Pleased council assistant leader Derek Fenny said: 'Once again Pets' Corner has come up trumps.'
