Erith & District Swimming Club had a tough start to the new White Horse League in round one held at Crook Log.

Despite starting off with a win in the mixed open freestyle relay, there were to be only another three wins for Erith, coming courtesy of Matt Kirkup in the 11 and under backstroke and freestyle, plus Nick McMonagle in the 13 and under backstroke.

Then an unfortunate disqualification near the end helped Croydon to edge past Erith in the overall placings.

Final positions: White Darts and Beckenham, both 102pts, Croydon 135, Erith 138, Bromley 168 and Eltham 221.

Meanwhile, members at Erith are preparing for a busy year ahead with its largest team of swimmers soon to start competing in the Kent County Championships.

The club will also compete fior the first time in the North Kent Junior League and, due to increased membership, there will be an additional B-team entered into the Speedo League towards the end of the year, while many other extra events are also planned to mark the club's 90th birthday this year.

The club is always keen to attract new members. If you are interested, call Pam Bedford on 01322 439892 or John Burdett on 01322 277754.
