MOTORISTS have been urged to take extra care on the roads, with icy conditions set to return.
The Met Office has forecast subzero temperatures and possible snow showers over the next few days.
The government’s salt rationing scheme is still in force and, as a result, there is a reduced road treatment plan, so motorists should take extra care on untreated roads.
Peter Hayward, Isle of Wight Council head of highways and transport, said: "I would encourage drivers to take extra care over coming days as we are expecting icy conditions, particularly during the night and early morning.
• would ask motorists to plan their routes carefully as some routes that were previously treated may now be affected by ice."
The council’s fleet of gritting vehicles will treat main routes at 7pm tonight (Tuesday).
