Sutton and District Athletic Club boys are facing a crunch promotion match next weekend.

The club's youngsters are joint leaders with Kingston Polytechnic of Ebbisham League Division 2 and go for promotion to Division 1 at Walton-on-Thames on Saturday.

Sutton's youngsters are in form. Two weeks ago at Croydon Arena in the McDonald's Young Athletics League they were third behind second-placed Epsom and Ewell Harriers. Despite being runners-up the Harriers have secured their own promotion play-off match at Wimbledon Park next month with enough points to top the league.

Sutton will be hoping to reproduce their form at Croydon even without one half of Sutton Grammar School's dynamic due of Tim Sinclair, 14, and Stephen Brockwell, 13, who won both the A and B string 80m hurdles respectively. Tim will be competing in the National Athletic Championships at Birmingham but Sutton can still look to its 4 x 100m U15s relay team who took gold at Croydon and Ben Harding, 14, who took silver in the 800m in only his second outing for the club.
