Inquest opened after cliff death

The scene of last week's incident at Compton.

AN INQUEST into the death of a Dorset woman who died after her vehicle plunged over a cliff at Compton last week has been opened and adjourned by the Isle of Wight coroner.

The body of Angela Slater, 48, of Salterns Way, Poole, Dorset, was recovered from the bottom of the cliff by emergency services last Tuesday.

A post mortem revealed she had died of multiple injuries.

The inquest was told how a witness out walking his dog had seen the car tumble down the cliff and had raised the alarm. Police attended and found the vehicle at the bottom of the cliff and recovered her body. She was taken to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport.

A police investigation has at this stage found no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.

Coroner, Caroline Sumeray, adjourned the inquest for a date to be fixed.
