Inquest opened into Bestival goer's death

AN INQUEST has opened into the death of a 35-year-old man who attended last weekend’s Bestival.

Daniel Parks, of Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent, died at St Mary’s Hospital, Newport, after his wife found him unconscious in a camper van at the Isle of Wight event, at around 11pm, on Saturday (8).

The couple had attended the music event and had stayed in a camper van at one of the Bestival’s camp sites.

He was taken to hospital by ambulance and was pronounced dead at 10.30am on Sunday (9). A post mortem was carried out at St Mary’s Hospital on Wednesday (12).

Island deputy coroner Hugh Calloway, who described Mr Parks’ death as totally unexpected, but said he was unable to give a defined cause of death at this stage and was awaiting toxicology results.

The hearing was adjourned to a date yet to be fixed.
