AN INQUEST has been opened into the deaths of two men who were killed in a crash in Wootton last week.

Daniel Mark Hayward, 20, died when his Yamaha R6 motorcycle was in collision with a Toyota Rav 4 car being driven by Leon Paul Richards, 46, at the junction of Park Road and Lushington Hill at around 11pm on Tuesday.

At the inquest, opened by Isle of Wight coroner, Caroline Sumeray, it was confirmed Mr Hayward, of Cross Lane, Newport, died at the scene from multiple traumatic injuries consistent with a road traffic accident.

Mr Richards, of Creek Gardens, Wootton, was taken to hospital and pronounced dead at 4.50am. He suffered a haemorrhage and traumatic brain injuries consistent with a road traffic accident.

It is believed Mr Hayward was riding down Lushington Hill towards the racecourse roundabout when a collision occurred with Mr Richards's vehicle, which is thought to have pulled out of Park Road.

Mr Hayward's pillion passenger, Dan Bronwin, 18, was thrown from the motorcycle and sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries and was taken to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport.

Police investigations into the incident are still ongoing.

The inquest was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
