Inside health help for Isle of Wight prisoners

By Emily Pearce

Tuesday, November 24, 2009

A NEW healthcare centre for prisoners has opened at HMP Isle of Wight.

Based at the Albany building and run by Isle of Wight NHS, it will give prisoners better access to healthcare services.

It will also save the Isle of Wight Primary Care Trust (PCT) money, as prisoners can be transferred back to the prison at an earlier stage to receive treatment.

The centre opened to patients on October 27.

Isle of Wight NHS chairman Danny Fisher said: "We will now be able to offer prisoners the same healthcare as the rest of the community."
