ACHISLEHURST gal is bigger than the Beatles. There you read it first in the News Shopper. Forget Oasis, the Bay City Rollers and other copycat bands, Chislehurst is bigger than The Beatles and we have the evidence.

Helen Shapiro, who lives in the London borough, is the reason why the Fab Four trails in the wake of Bromley bombshell who is touring for the very last time.

As our poster shows, Shapiro headlined the evening when she played a concert along with the Beatles, Danny Williams and Kenny Lynch at the Coventry Theatre on February 24 1963 pushing the Fab Four to second on the bill.

As part of her final tour, Shapiro will be visiting the Woodville Halls, in Windmill Street, Gravesend, on March 2 and The Stag Theatre, in London Road, Sevenoaks on April 14.

Among the number ones which will be aired are You Don't Know and Walkin' Back To Happiness as well as the rest of her incredibly-versatile collection of songs from jazz, pop, blues and gospel.

Her long-time collaborator and a jazz legend in his own right, Humphrey Lyttelton, said: "Helen has a voice that can turn strong men's knees to jelly. She is a great talent."
