DIAMOND Jubilee celebration preparations are underway across the Isle of Wight.
The Isle of Wight Council has released details of events taking place across the Island to mark the event, including street parties, fetes, regattas and concerts.
The main jubilee event will be at Appley Park, Ryde from Saturday, June 2 to Monday, June 4.
On the Sunday one of 3,000 celebratory beacons situated across the country will be lit, followed by a fireworks display.
On the Saturday there will be a parade featuring marching bands, vintage vehicles and a carnival section.
There have been 17 applications for road closures for other street parties and community events and more than 60 other events are planned for open spaces, community centres and Island attractions, according to the council.
"The Island’s bell ringers are planning to celebrate the Jubilee by sounding the bells at the Island’s 14 bell towers between noon and 3pm on Sunday 3 June.
"An open day recently took place at Newport Minster to recruit new ringers, this was attended by former council chairman, David Williams – who met local ringers and tested his campanology skills," said a spokeswoman.
On Monday there will be a public thanksgiving service at Newport Minster, starting at 5pm, which will be attended by Isle of Wight Lord-Lieutenant Maj Gen Martin White, the Queen’s Isle of Wight representative.
On June 3 two Island boats – steam launch Kariat and Gypsy Moth IV - will take part in the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee River Pageant.
They will join thousands of boats following the royal barge along the Thames.
The Island’s Lord-Lieutenant will be aboard Kariat together with Deputy Lieutenant Peter Grimaldi and selected Island Cadets.
Other cadets will sail on Gipsy Moth IV.
Isle of Wight Council chairman of the Isle of Wight Council, Councillor Susan Scoccia, said: "The Island is really rising to the occasion and pulling out all the stops for the Diamond Jubilee.
"It is wonderful to see communities joining together to organise street parties and larger organisations putting on events to be proud of in celebration of our country’s history and heritage.
"This is a very special year for the country and here on the Island we are looking forward to celebrating the Jubilee weekend ahead of The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh’s visit to the Island on 25 July – on what will be the final day of their historic tour of the country."
