Island unemployment falls

UNEMPLOYMENT has fallen again on the Isle of Wight, with the number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance dropping from 3,107 to 2,986.

The fall of 121 was the fourth month in a row when the number of claimants dropped.

The figure represents 3.6 per cent of the Isle of Wigt population aged 16 to 64.

In the South East, 2.5 per cent of 16 to 64 year olds claimed Jobseeker's Allowance and nationally the figure was 3.6 per cent for June.

In June 2011 the number of claimants on the Isle of Wight was 2,657, or 3.2 per cent of 16 to 64 year olds.

Shouldn't the figure of interest be 'number of people looking for work' not the number of people claiming Jobseeker Allowances.

seasonal fluctuation same every year and yet the idiots still use the figures as some idiotic form of propaganda. give us ordinary folk a little credit some of us are probably a damn sight smarter than you.

So unemployment rises in the winter and falls in the summer? Obvously shows how important tourism still is to the IOW. It's a good job our council are doing everything they can to support/protect our tourism industry...oh...hang on...my bad!
