FURIOUS library users have held meetings and demonstrations across the Isle of Wight, protesting against plans to slash services.

More than 300 angry Sandown residents turned out to protest against the planned closure of their library, marching in the streets to support the town's 'Save Our Library' campaign.

Cowes library user Amber Bazzoni, who organised a protest meeting on Saturday, said residents were sad and angry about the prospect of losing their library and critical of suggestions volunteers should run the service.

A petition to save Cowes library can be signed at Ginger greengrocers, in Shooters Hill, and Cowes Primary School children will also be writing protest letters to the council.

Another petition to save the East Cowes library — already signed by more than 200 people — can be signed at Whippingham Post Office, Fur and Fin at Clarence Road, and The Market at York Avenue.

Speaking after a meeting at Ventnor, campaigner Jim Morgan said residents were dismayed at the prospect of the town losing all its services.
