ISLANDERS have been urged to help revellers from the Isle of Wight Festival if they are stranded at the end of this year's event.

Tailbacks stretching for miles led to some festival-goers having to sleep in their cars last night (Thursday), prompting the creation of a Emergency and Community Information Facebook page.

The page has provided information and offers of help for those caught up in Thursday's problems.

Ryde resident Linda Bassett has now posted on the site, urging people to leave messages on the page if they are able to offer accommodation to vulnernable people - such as families with children - a place to stay, stop for a break or use the toilet, if there are more travel problems at the end of the event.

"It's no good just complaining if we are not prepared to help people. I am not suggesting people let in any Tom, Dick or Harry, but if it is a couple of young girls, or someone who is pregnant, then I would be happy to let them have my bunk beds for the night," said Mrs Bassett.

Time to move it to the mainland i think they could cope better, its no good keep banging on about 1970s, forty odd years later with lot more cars on the road, and the island roads are not up to it, you only have to be out there mon-fri 8am-9-30am + the road works,to see how quick the traffic builds up, its no good saying the island benifits because 90 o/o don"t were just left to pick up the bill, it must be better for a few hundred people to travel to the mainland rather than thousands coming here. don,t get me started on the RIP OFF ferries

I thought I read that Mr Giddings had it all planned out for the end of the festival, so there shouldn't be any problems, should there?!!

Didnt want them here in the first place. They chose to come here knowing the weather forecasts etc. I sat in a line of traffic myself for 6 hours. And all I was doing was going home. Not going out to have fun.

Why can't we use a struggling airport at Sandown to transport revellers
