ISLANDERS enjoyed a fantastic view of HMS Illustrious as it made its
final voyage into its home port of Portsmouth earlier this week.
The helicopter carrier is due to be retired after 32 years of service
around the world, including the Falklands, Bosnia and Iraq.
HMS Illustrious gave a gun salute as it arrived at the mouth of Portsmouth
Harbour on Tuesday and its arrival was marked with a flypast of Apache, Lynx,
Merlin, Sea King and Chinook helicopters.
Beach-goers in Ryde, including photographer Graham Reading, who took
these pictures, were treated to a great view of the spectacle.
HMS Illustrious appears on the horizon.
The vessel passes No Man's Land and Horse Sand Forts.
