Protesting against cuts outside Brighstone Library.
LIBRARY staff across the Isle of Wight downed tools today (Wednesday) in protest against service cuts planned by the Isle of Wight Council.
Unison said 45 out of 50 staff walked out ahead of the crunch budget-setting meeting, which discussed proposed cutbacks to the Island’s libraries.
A demonstration was also held outside Lord Louis Mountbatten Library in Newport ahead of a rally outside County Hall before the budget meeting.
Pickets were out in force outside libraries across the Island and the council’s mobile library service was also closed.
