April 26, 2001 9:50: I AM afraid I have little sympathy with the residents of Chinbrook Road, (News Shopper, April 18).

Firstly your correspondent is a victim of that modern-day disease apathy. He or she informs us only 26 out of 58 households bothered to reply to the council's canvass.

That is less than 45 per cent. If the residents end up with a parking scheme they dislike it is their own fault.

My second point concerns the assumption that, despite the majority of the respondents being in favour, "most of us" are against. How does he or she know the remaining 55 per cent would not have voted a similar way?

Finally he or she complains about paying £25 a year for the privilege of parking. That is less than 49p a week to ensure spaces are free from commuters.

Doesn't sound onerous to me. It would just cover the administration costs.

Yes I know we all pay council tax, but wouldn't you rather finite resources are spent on more important things.

Just for the record, I have absolutely no connection with Greenwich Council other than as a resident.
