CHILDREN aged five to seven are to go out and about in Lewisham to get road safety training.
Lewisham Council has won money from the Government to pilot a pedestrian training scheme in the north of the borough.
The money will enable the council to employ a training co-ordinator to work in 11 Lewisham schools.
These will include Grinling Gibbons Primary School, in Clyde Street, Deptford.
The scheme is aimed at encouraging parents and volunteers within schools to carry out practical coaching on all aspects of crossing the road.
Lewisham's deputy mayor Councillor Gavin Moore said: βIt is vital we provide children with a practical understanding of the dangers they face on the road.β
