(Bobby Moore Cup)

THE INAUGURAL Bobby Moore Cup was won by West Ham on Tuesday night, but the way in which they accepted the prize showed little in the way of charity (Matt Porter writes)

Ian Feuer, one of only two senior players on display, collected the cup from O's Chairman Barry Hearn by the Brisbane Road dugouts, but then found that the rest of his team-mates had already left the field.

The trophy was presented in the dressing room, away from the eyes of the 2,358 fans, most of whom were Hammers supporters who had turned up to support the Bobby Moore Fund for Imperial Cancer Research.

Both sides used the game to field a number of trialists and it was one of these that netted the Premiership club's winner with a low shot under Ashley Bayes on 80 minutes.

Andy Harris had levelled for the O's five minutes after the break with a swinging cross that evaded the West Ham defence and crept in at the far post.

On 36 minutes Grant McCann had fired West Ham ahead from the penalty spot after Wim Walschaerts had been harshly adjudged to have fouled John Moncur.

Orient boss Tommy Taylor fielded Tony Williams, a goalkeeper with Welsh international honours at junior level, in the first half along with Mustafa and then after the interval he gave debuts to Slovakian Niam Uka and new French signing Zola Nsuka as well as two trialist attackers, Andy Moran of Tranmere and an unknown Blackpool youngster.

Taylor said: 'The game was useful because it let me have a look at a few triallists and see how the kids got on too.

'Jabo Ibehre and Chris Dorrian were outstanding.'

Meanwhile, the future of Ahmet Brkovic in E10 hangs in the balance with talks between the club and his agent locked in stalemate.

Taylor said: 'We have offered him a contract but his agent has turned it down.'
