BRUCE Castle Museum is to launch a new Inventor Centre on Sunday with an interactive exhibition of innovative inventions.
The Inventor Centre will showcase a selection of work from local inventors and visitors will be invited to examine the displays and solve problems.
Featured inventors include Luke Howard who named the clouds, Rowland Hill who invented the penny post, David Gestetner who invented a duplicator, JA Prestwich who developed a series of engines, George Shadbolt, a pioneering photographer and Priscilla Wakefield who founded the first savings bank in Britain.
The first TV studios at Alexandra Palace and the building of Archway Bridge will also come under the spotlight
The exhibition is the first stage in the introduction of a permanent Invention gallery at Bruce Castle Museum. Local children were invited to evaluate the prototypes before the final designs were decided upon.
Organisers hope that it will encourage visitors to take part in problem solving using real life examples related to the history of the borough whilst raising awareness of the achievements of local people.
Entry to the Inventor Centre will be free.
It will be open from Wednesday to Sunday from 1-5pm.
