I am writing to urge you to pack your ruck sacks and join me on the holiday of a lifetime - a trek through the Appalachian Mountains in aid of the NSPCC.

Inspired by "A Walk in the Woods," this unique fundraising holiday will follow the little-used Allegheny Trail through some of America's most arresting and celebrated scenery.

The eight-day trek will take us along 116 km of mountain paths, old rail heads and logging paths before we take a well-earned rest in log cabins in the tranquil setting of the New River Gorge.

Anyone still hungry for adventure can try their hand at white water rafting or abseiling.

I am looking for 50 intrepid explorers who now want to walk the experience to join me in raising money for the NSPCC's work with abused and neglected children.

The trip takes place from June 18 to July 2 1999. It costs £1,600, £200 of which will go directly to the NSPCC.

The NSPCC will also provide all participants with a fundraising and media pack containing everything they need to start raising sponsorship.

To book a place on this fabulous holiday, please contact David Graham at The Big Events Company on freephone 0800 731 3766.

I look forward to seeing you on the trail!
