LUCKY Isle of Wight Festival-goers could get their hands on tickets at the 1970 price — the date of the iconic event at Afton Down, which played host Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Joni Mitchell and The Who.

A competition has been launched today (Wednesday) giving revellers the chance to win tickets for just £3, with car ferry crossings for £2 and foot passenger crossings for the princely sum of just six shillings — or 30p — when they buy an early bird ticket.

Tickets must be purchased before January 16 to be in with a chance of winning.

Acts confirmed for this year's festival include Biffy Clyro, Calvin Harris and Rudimental, plus Passenger, The 1975 and The Waterboys.

The festival will be held at Seaclose Park, Newport, from June 12 to June 15.

The reason Glastonbury and Bestival set out each year is that they invest into the whole event not just the main acts. Long gone are the days when you can expect to sell out by sticking goes in a large open space with the only focus on a main stage

If this coming summer is like 1976, (I think last years was like 1975 b/w) then all the festivals will be sold out and full to bursting. IMO

p.s Sonisphere 2014 at Knebworth is NOT sold out - despite having a fantastic advance line-up.
More likely to go there than the 'sardine-tin' of Seaclose - but that's another story...

I think, when it comes to Festival Artist Bookings and Marketing - I'll go with the likes of John Giddings and Michael Eavis, Don.

On this occasion, you're on a very wobbly soap box.

Ted people know Glastonbury will have an excellent line up it always has, that's why its sells out in minutes ,there are some very strong rumours of whose playing as well, also its an institution- the place to be. the island has sold out before Christmas before but only when the top names were released.

Tell that to Michael and Emily Eavis - anyhow, young Mr. Giddings has already released a few names. What more do you want - it's only a few days into the New Year and already Islanders are jumping on their favourite tagets.
