THE FORMER police lead planner for the Isle of Wight Festival has left the force to become the event’s operations manager.
Dave Steele, who as a police sergeant was lead planner for the festival and other events, will now work with organisers Solo.
A Solo spokesman said they were reviewing all aspects of the event after heavy rain led to chaos on the opening day this year, with much of the Island brought to a standstill by festival traffic.
John Giddings, the man behind the festival, said: "We’re delighted to have Dave on board. His experience, coupled with his energy and enthusiasm, will put us in a great place to move forward for next year’s festival, as we have to be prepared in the future for the same thing to happen again. We have to avoid, at all costs, a repeat scenario. This is the first step in the process to make it easier for people to access the site and enjoy the fantastic music and entertainment the festival has to offer."
Mr Steele, who ran the successful police Twitter account @FestivalCop, said: "I am thrilled to be part of the Solo team. I think this is a fantastic opportunity for all of us.
"I have a history in event planning with the police and will bring this experience to the table.
"Being part of such a credible and iconic festival is extremely exciting and I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead."
