MARCHING under a banner of 'no cuts, no closures, no privatisation,' campaigners from the Isle of Wight travelled to London on Saturday to take part in a national rally to defend the NHS.
More than 60 people headed for the capital on two coaches, funded by Unison, including members of the Labour and Green Parties, trade unions and the Unite the Isle of Wight group.
Demonstrators at the #ourNHS protest gathered at Tavistock Square and marched on Parliament.
Unison branch secretary Mark Chiverton said: "There are real concerns the government Sustainability and Transformations Plans (STPs) to overhaul health services — and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight STP in particular — will lead to a massive erosion of services based on the Island, causing a situation where more and more patients will be faced with inconvenient and expansive mainland trips."
