INSPECTORS have this week shed light on failures at St Mary's Hospital on the Isle of Wight.

In today's (December 9) County Press an exclusive report reveals how the Care Quality Commission discovered the emergency department was understaffed and nurses have arrived at deceased patient's houses, unaware they had passed away.

Isle of Wight NHS chief executive Karen Baker was forced to apologise for the many failures identified.

"On behalf of the trust, I am sorry some of the Island services have not the standards we would want them to."

In total 59 points, including some positives, were identified in the preliminary CQC report.
