THE days are short, but the nights are long so this weekend is a great chance to head to the pub and take in some live music, from classical to classic rock.
First though, it's the big volunteer fair at Ventnor Botanic Gardens this weekend. From 11am today (Saturday), there will be dozens of charities including the National Trust, Age UK, and the Society for the Blind offering information and advice.
Or if you fancy a slice of Island history head to Vestas Technology at Stag Lane, at 10.30am for a guided walk of historic kilns.
As the curtain comes down on pantomime season, its one of the last chances to catch a show. The Wight Island Players will be putting on Cinderella at the Bembridge village hall today (Saturday) at 2.30pm and 7.30pm, and tomorrow (Sunday) at 2.30pm. Tickets are available from the Welcome Store, Bembridge.
Over in Freshwater this evening (Saturday) is the West Wight Arts Association concert. Starting at 7pm at the Freshwater Memorial Hall, the concert will be given by violinist Savitri Grier, and Richard Uttley on piano, featuring music from Mozart, Stravinsky, and Enesco. Tickets are £12.50 with concessions.
Also this evening is the Rock 'n’ Roll special at the Riverside Centre from 7pm, the Doghouse Band at the Bargeman’s Rest, Newport, Rob and Kier at the Anchor, Cowes from 9pm, and the Meteors will playing at the Tap Inn, Sandown, at 9pm.
Tomorrow (Sunday) there will be live music from Vectis Corps of Drums and the Rug Band ukulele players at Quay Arts from 3pm.
In Ryde the Soul Lounge will be at High Park Tavern from 4pm, the Wight Rock Bar will be hosting the Sunday Session, and there will be Karaoke night at the Castle Inn from 8pm.
