IT’S the first day of Spring Half Term, and things are starting to get busy on the Isle of Wight with pantomimes, art, and even a Fawlty Towers dinner.
At the Seaview Art Gallery today (Saturday) is the Inspiration and Temptation exhibition, with pieces available to purchase at discounts between 10 and 50 percent.
Young people aged between 14 and 18 have been working together as part of Joanna Kori’s ongoing Future reCollections exhibition at Quay Arts. They are no contributing their own exhibition at the Clayden Gallery and today (Saturday) is the last day you can catch it. Opening times are from 10am until 5pm and entrance is free.
You could also check out the Nicky Baker’s Wight Pencil exhibition at the Garlic Farm between 9am and 5pm all weekend and beyond. Alternatively, the Wight Strollers will be presenting their production of Jack and the Beanstalk at Medina Theatre today (Saturday) at 2.30pm and 7.30pm, and again tomorrow (Sunday) at 2.30pm.
If you making the most of all that time spent watching Eggheads and Pointless, head over to Newclose Cricket Club this evening (Saturday) at 7.30pm for a charity general knowledge quiz in aid of Cats Protection IW.
Take in dinner and a Fawlty Towers show at the Chequers Inn, Rookley. From 6pm this evening (Saturday), you can sample a piece professional comedy theatre, hosted by Basil, Sybil and Manuel. Tickets are £40 for a three course meal plus the show. To book, call 01983 840314.
Get the kids, and yourself, out of the house for a walk around the Ventnor Botanic Gardens today (Saturday) and tomorrow (Sunday) to spot the signs of spring. Explore the beautiful gardens on this special half-term trail between 10am and 4pm.
At Quay Arts tomorrow (Sunday), there is live music from That Jazz at 3pm. A donation of £5 is suggested for entrance, with all proceeds going to Quay Arts and the Julia Cameron Trust at Dimbola.
Don't let the meagre amount of snow we've had recently dash your hopes of building a snowman. At the Small Hope Beach, Shanklin, tomorrow (Sunday) is the Sandman Snowman contest from 11am.
Head over and try your hand at a sandy masterpiece.
Closing out the weekend tomorrow (Sunday) is an evening of Island folk music at Quay Arts, featuring guest spots from local singers and bands. The show begins at 7.30pm and entrance is free.
