THE internet is taking a day off to celebrate April Fool’s Day, so why not get outside and enjoy some of the many varied events on this weekend.
At 2.30pm today (Saturday), Island showbiz writer and broadcaster, John Hannam, will be giving a talk at the Dimbola Museum and Galleries about his 44 years interviewing famous stars, plus a talk about his new book on the stories behind meeting pop stars in the '50s, '60s, and '70.
Yesterday marked international Transgender Day of Visibility, and in order to celebrate the Isle of Wight Breakout youth group has been working with Island artists Joanna Kori and Jeni Saunders.
The exhibition, entitled Open Your Eyes is a journey through the history of transgender and non-binary identities and runs all weekend and beyond from 9am until 5pm at Quay Arts.
Celebrate the grand opening of the Archaeology Discovery Centre at Fort Victoria with the Sunken Secrets exhibition today (Saturday) and tomorrow (Sunday). The family friendly event runs from 10am until 5pm.
Tonight (Saturday) is the last chance to catch the Apollo Players’ production of The Loves of Cass McGuire at the Apollo Theatre, Newport. The show starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £8.50.

The voice of Classic FM’s weekday mornings, John Suchet, will be at Shanklin Theatre this evening (Saturday).
He will be giving an in-depth presentation on the lives and works of some of history’s most renowned classical composers. The show starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £15.50.
This year’s Bonchurch Community Association’s theme night at East Dene is Palm Court. Inspired by the rhythms of the 1920s, the evening is billed as elegant, sophisticated, riotous fun. Festivities kick off at 7.30pm tonight (Saturday) and tickets are £12.50.
The World Village Project presents an evening of live music at Aspire, Ryde today (Saturday). Headlined by Anchorsong, who’s latest album was voted one of BBC6 Music’s top five albums of 2016, the event will also feature the Ric Harris Trio, MIST Moving Image, Reading Between the Lines, and Mondomix DJs.
There will be a bar and food available at this free evening which runs from 5pm until 11pm.
The Cantata Choir will be performing at the Medina Theatre tonight at 7.30pm. Tickets are £12 for adults
The Wight Diamonds Marching Band present their spring concert at the Trinity Theatre tonight (Saturday) from 7pm, featuring music from film and stage musicals. Tickets are £5 with proceeds going to support the RSPCA centre in Godshill.
It’s the memorial ploughing match tomorrow morning (Sunday) at the New Wolverton Farm, Shorewell. From 9.30am until 4.30pm, watch heavy horses ploughing alongside vintage and conventional tractors. Entry is free and all money donated will be going to Island charities.
The Shoestring Players will be dipping into the literary riches of the Island with their Kaleidoscope of Wight Words, tomorrow (Sunday) at East Dene, Ventnor from 3pm. Revel in the Island’s heritage of prose, poetry, drama, and song at this free event. For advanced booking, call 01983 852374
Catch a free screening of the award winning I, Daniel Blake at Aspire Ryde tomorrow evening (Sunday). Doors open at 6pm for a 6.30pm start and the viewing is followed by a group discussion on the issues raised in the film for those who want to take part.
