The Friends of Blondin voluntary group has been handed a £30,000 award to help it make the site open to more users.

Friends of Blondin was formed to set up a conservation area on the four-acres of former allotment land between Blondin Park, Boston Manor Road and Swyncombe Avenue.

The cash, from the National Lottery Charities Board will pay for a safe route for wheelchairs and pushchairs as well as installing kissing gates, styles, seating and providing a platform by the pond.

A millennium sculpture by a local artist is also planned for the site which already boasts a community orchard and wildflower meadow.

Volunteer co-ordinator Helen Johnson said: 'This award will make a huge difference in enabling us to develop the site and form a green and peaceful sanctuary for wildlife and people in the midst of our densely populated part of Ealing.'

The Friends will be celebrating their award with an Easter Eggstra day out on the nature area on Saturday between 2pm and 3.30pm.

Featuring a nature trail quiz, egg decorating, bunny mask making and egg and spoon races all are welcome to come along.
