Isle of Wight's Ocean Brothers try out boat for Atlantic challenge

THE Isle of Wight's 'Ocean Brothers’ are ramping up their training regime with a taste of what several weeks of their life will be like when they try to row across the Atlantic.
Gym training for 17-year-old Jude Massey and his half-brother, Dr Greg Bailey, 27, who were brought up in Seaview, has now been consolidated by rowing a boat similar to the one for their 3,000-mile odyssey in the tidal race off The Needles.
They are seeking to raise £100,000 from their Atlantic crossing in January for the British Skin Foundation in memory of their father, Peter Massey, who died from skin cancer. Peter was Jude’s father and Greg’s stepfather.
They are seeking sponsorship of £90,000 to make it happen and they expect to be living and rowing in their tiny boat, battling 30ft waves, for an estimated 11 weeks.
They are being trained by former GB international rower Chris Martin.
Greg said: "It was truly spectacular to row past the stacks of chalk, which are one of the UK’s most well-known landmarks."
