THE latest Newport Jazz Weekend has been hailed a success by organisers, after more than a thousand tickets were sold and several shows sold out.

Writing on the official blog for the Isle of Wight event, Jim Thorn said there had been some fantastic music over the four day event.

"It's been a great weekend. We're really happy with the attendance," he told the County Press.

Among the acts were the Derek Nash Acoustic Quartet, Gary Plumley and The Bees' Tim Parkin, Julian Stringle, The Dream Band and Tipitina. Performances were held at venues across the town.

The festival came to a fitting close on Sunday with a roaring performance from the Enrico Tomasso, Alan Barnes and Art Themen Sextet at the Riverside Centre.

The dates for next year's event have been announced — May 28 to 31.

For a full report and more pictures, please see the Isle of Wight County Press on Friday, July 25.
