A JET skier sinking in Osborne Bay and suffering from hypothermia was rescued by Cowes RNLI Lifeboat last night (Thursday).
The man, who was riding the jet ski for the first time, had set off from Lee on the Solent.
The jet ski suffered a malfunction and began to sink.
The lifeboat crew rushed to the scene, took the man to the station and attempted to increase his body temperature.
He was placed in a thermal suit and given a free Red Jet journey back to the mainland where his car and trailer were.
The RNLI recovered the partially submerged jet ski and a mechanic's truck hauled it on to the slipway in Cowes.
A Cowes RNLI spokesman said: "This is a good reminder to us all that no matter how high in sky the sun is and how nice a day it was today, the sea in Britain is blinking cold in May.
"I shook hands with the casualty a full hour after his dunking - his hand was still very cold."
