THERE are fears that up to a further 100 jobs, both police officers and staff, could be lost following the Hampshire Police Authority’s decision to freeze its council tax precept.
The Hampshire Police Federation and the chief constable had wanted a 3.2 per cent increase in the police precept.
John Apter, federation chairman, said: "I’ve heard the chief constable already say this decision will mean up to a further 100 jobs, both police officers and police staff, will be lost."

Ditto those comments below and...I believe that the proposal was to increase the precept by 3.25% OR accept a government "grant" from the Whitehall Grant Tree of 3%, so the "loss' of up to 100 jobs seems highly unlikely to me.

Re: Michael BainsI agree 100%. What the hell are the police doing with BMW X5s in a place with a half a mile of dual carriage-way? Fiestas and Corsas would be fine and bikes much more useful in most circumstances. This is our money they are exporting to Germany. The waste has got to stop now.

perhaps if the police reduced the number of their top of the range police cars they could save the jobs, most of the cars seem to have only one occupant and several cars attending an incident where only perhaps two officers are needed, most of the time we see them parked outside the police stations.
