Job losses not ruled out by turbine company

FUTURE job losses have not been ruled out at wind turbine manufacturer Vestas.

The company, which employs around 200 people on the Isle of Wight at its research and development centre in Stag Lane, is undergoing a major international restructure and reducing its workforce to match expected tougher conditions next year.

Rob Sauven, managing director of Vestas Technology, told the County Press this week: "I am pleased to say that the reductions to date in Vestas Technology UK Ltd have been minimal, but we are also aware that we are operating in a very tough climate and future reductions cannot be ruled out."

It was anticipated that by the time the new research and development centre opened in 2011 the Island’s workforce would have grown to 200 and then to 400 over the following years.

Mr Sauven added: "We always have leavers and joiners as the business needs change but our net figure is still 200."

The issue of wind energy came to a head today (Wednesday), after energy minister John Hayes said there would be a review of the impact of onshore wind turbines on local communities.

During today’s Prime Minister’s question time David Cameron said there had been no change on the government’s wind energy policy.

Vic, of course they will. Wire netting will be put at all the windows and 'Flying Pigs' will be bred and reared for the speciality of the 'Pig's Wings Butty' to be produced as a wholesale item for markets worldwide.

So you would base an economy on companies which only exist courtesy of the taxpayer who funds their unproductive activities would you Mark?
Has it ever occurred to you just how much money has already been wasted on this company?
Is your memory conveniently short enough to forget that a few years back, when they could not blackmail the government into "donating" another £10 million of tax payers cash to keep these jobs built on sand, Vestas threw their toys out of the pram and sacked 600 people?
On the other hand, I have an enormous amount of sympathy for those made redundant at Gurnard Pines, but of course the management there (such as it is) did NOT have access to government "grants".

Your combined lack of compassion for people that may be redundant is astounding!

Just for a change with regard to wind turbines, lets look at the facts.
Vestas are virtually bankrupt.
They have been touting themselves around the world as a 'potential" takeover target, latterly with another ailing company, Mitsubishi.
Their share prices are in the basement having lost 85% of their value.
They have just sacked another 800 workers in the USA.
And finally, according to Pueblo Chieftain : "The Danish government won’t provide direct support to Vestas should the world’s biggest maker of wind turbines need a bailout to stay afloat, the Bloomberg news agency reports.
“We cannot and will not support a single company. It is against the government’s general state aid policy,” Martin Lidegaard, Denmark’s Energy Minister, said in an e-mailed reply to questions from the news agency.
So Rob Sauven can be as misleading as he likes, but he can't escape reality, which in the end will finish off all these wind carpetbaggers.
Vestas will be gone within a year.
