A FREE course for unemployed young people is being delivered by two Isle of Wight charities.

For 12 weeks, a course by UKSA, Cowes, and YMCA, Shanklin, will look at the Prince’s Trust TEAM programme for people on the Island, aged 16 to 25.

The aim of the course is to give them a better chance of moving into employment, education or training and also gives an opportunity for participants to use their skills and gain new ones, while acquiring a nationally recognised qualification.

Participants will also be able to enjoy a five-day multi-activity residential course at UKSA and two weeks’ work experience within the community.

The programme is also available for young employees who would like the chance to develop new interpersonal skills to help improve long-term career prospects.

A selection day will take place on Thursday, January 17, at UKSA.

• For more information, contact Lee Jones at UKSA, on 01983 294941, or e-mail lee.jones@uksa.org.

The TEAM programme is featured on the Prince’s Trust website — visit www.princestrust.org.uk/needhelp/courses/team.aspx.

There is only one way to cure unemployment and that is to stop all imports other than food. If it isnt made here then you cannot buy it simple as that and then maybe there would be jobs and a future for the young. Things would cost more but people would have work. All the training schemes in the world wont create jobs if everything is made abroad and the government will have to face this before the riots start when the benifits run out!

its great to keep people active and get qualifications....but without jon availablity, the only answer is to move away, thus denuding the Island of its vital youth.

We need a council that will help create jobs, not one whose only aim is to cut spending and save money
