UP TO 17 jobs could be lost at Isle of Wight manufacturer Doncasters Trucast, as the company looks to restructure its workforce.
The Ryde company blamed the redundancies, which will affect support staff, on increasing cheaper competition from abroad.
General manager Carl Sanderson said: "Over the past year the company has made significant improvements to operational and manufacturing efficiency in its quest to become a globally competitive player in the marketplace.
"The size of our office and support functions is unfortunately no longer appropriate relative to our direct workforce and global competitors.
"The company intends, therefore, to restructure these areas enabling closer and more direct alignment with manufacturing operations.
"We will be working closely with the union and employee forum on this over the coming weeks, actively searching for solutions which meet the needs of the business environment while minimising the potential job losses. These solutions will include, but not be limited to, aiding in the redeployment of staff to other work opportunities elsewhere within the Doncasters Group, or indeed here in Ryde."
Doncasters Trucast is part of the Doncasters Turbocharger Components Division and an international manufacturer of hot-end turbocharger wheels for the automotive and power generation industries.
