BASKETBALL: Brixton Topcats secured their first victory of the season after emphatically winning this First Division bottom of the table clash at the Brixton Recreation Centre.

Topcats overturned an 11 point difference (21-32) in the 10th minute to take a convincing 17-point victory. Brixton's threat of relegation also disappeared after the English Basketball's Associa-tion announced that the club will remain in Division One to allow a new 14 -team first division. Three teams are to come up from Division Two.

Mid-Sussex player-coach Phil Wagthorne top scored with 25 points while the Topcats' Eddie Owusu hit 24 points. Shaun Grey added 16 points, while Marcus Knight and Charles Madike - star of the future - added 14 points.

Jimmy Rogers commented: "I though all my juniors played an exceptional game."

Meanwhile the reigning junior champions, the Junior Topcats, crushed Reading 128-36 with an awesome display of basketball.
