King to rule at music club

Mark King is the special guest at next week's Rob da Bank Music Club.

LEGENDARY Level 42 bass player, Mark King, is the special guest at Bestival curator Rob da Bank’s free music club next week.

The club, set to take place at Quay Arts, Newport, on Tuesday, February 26 between 5pm and 7pm, is run in partnership with the Isle of Wight Youth Trust and gives youngsters aged between 14 and 18 the chance to get into music — with this month’s club focusing on how to produce Drum 'n' Bass.

Also appearing at the music club will be DJ Karma, who will show how to make synth sounds and big basslines with hard wire synthesisers and a groove and rhythm workshop from The Ohmz.

There will also be a rap workshop with the Isle of Wight’s own Born in a Barn, and music video workshops with the AV Circus.

Rob said: "My music club is the place you need to be on the Isle of Wight if you want to get into music. It’s that simple."

Free squash and snacks are also provided. Isle of Wight Radio will also be at the club to record performances between 6.30pm and 7pm.

Taxi companies have offered free lifts from local schools to the club and back as well.

Anyone who would like to perform at the event, help present the accompanying radio show, or find out about a taxi, can contact organisers at

Future dates for the club are on March 26, April 30, May 29 and June 26.
