HUNDREDS of scooters will hit the road from Newport to Ryde tomorrow (Sunday) as Lambretta Day returns, bringing with it top live music.
Thousands of scooter enthusiasts and music fans, will descend on the Island for the annual event, which has become a major fixture in the British scootering calendar.
As ever, Lambretta Day will get under way at the Riverside Centre, Newport, where an expected 300-plus scooters - many of them beautifully restored classics - will descend on the quayside from all over the country and the continent.
The traditional annual ride-out will leave Newport at 1pm to Ryde seafront's Pavilion Bar, where trophies will be presented by organisers to the best scooters.
Lambretta Day was established in 1999 as part of the launch of Lambretta-branded clothing at the My Generation clothing outlet in Newport, which attracted about 20 scooterists.
The live music that complements the love of the scooter has become every bit as important to Lambretta Day.
The pick of the evening's entertainment will be one of the best ska bands in the UK, Ska Dogs, who will perform back-to-back 2 Tone and ska classics at The Balcony Bars, above the Pavilion in Ryde.
There will also be punk and new wave outfit X-Directory, mod covers band Butterfly Collective, Three Minute Heroes, Liam Hodge and Kyle Chapman.
Dance music will be provided by DJ Al Supersonic, who will spin a selection of mod, jazz, 1960s' soul, pop and funk classics.
There will be DJ music and a barbecue at the Pavilion all afternoon and through to the early evening, to link with the start of the live music.
The evening's entertainment will continue until 1am.
Lambretta Day will be supporting Cancer Research UK's Relay for Life initiative with a collection.
