The Old Comical in Sandown.
A SANDOWN pub landlady has been fined £1,800 and ordered to pay almost £1,600 in costs after playing music too loud on several occasions.
Wendy Blake, 33, who runs The Old Comical in St John's Road, breached a noise abatement notice nine times between April and August last year.
In October 2011, the authority began legal proceedings against Miss Blake, who pleaded not guilty to all nine charges relating to failing to comply with the requirements imposed by an abatement notice served by the council.
At a one-day trial at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court in Newport, Miss Blake was found guilty of each offence and ordered to pay a fine of £200 in relation to each one. She was also ordered to pay the council's costs of £1595.99 and a surcharge of £15.
Amanda Gregory, the Isle of Wight Council's regulatory services manager, said: "The owners of pubs have a responsibility to prevent noise disturbances at their establishments.
"The owner of The Old Comical had several opportunities to keep the noise from her pub within acceptable levels but repeatedly failed to do so, and her actions have resulted in an expensive day in court."
