LATER opening hours at Newclose Cricket Ground have prompted noise concerns from neighbours.

An application to extend the hours — to sell alcohol until midnight on Fridays and play music in the pavilion until midnight on Friday and Saturdays — has been approved by the Isle of Wight Council's licensing sub committee.

It was previously 11pm, which Newclose said was too early for wedding parties and other functions.

Entertainment in the outdoor marquee will continue to be provided until 11pm, on a maximum of 12 days between April 1 and September 30.

Newclose agreed to conditions requested by the police, to install CCTV and keep a written record of crime and disorder incidents and alcohol sale refusals.

Objections were received from three neighbouring properties, largely concerned about noise from revellers.

They said Newclose had originally opened as a cricket ground only, but had become a bar, restaurant and entertainment venue that was unsuitable for a quiet rural area.

The committee, which met last Thursday (November 9) also agreed Newclose could remain open until 1am on New Year's Eve.
